Camp Royal 2021

Page managed by Gary Wegener ( Updated May 6, 2020

Camp Royal is the Rotary Youth Leadership Award (RYLA) camp hosted by Rotary International District 5160 at no cost to participating high school students  since 1979.  It has typically been a one week camp experience at Bar 717 ranch in northern California.  Unfortunately, the 2020 Camp had to be canceled due to the covid outbreak, and our  2021 event will be virtual (as are the vast majority of other RYLAs in the western United States).  In 2021, the camp is open to high school juniors and seniors. We all hope to return to in-person camps in 2022.

The Camp Royal committee has worked closely with Lain Hensley of Odyssey Teams to adapt and supplement the content of past camps to transform top a virtual program worthy of the Camp Royal name. Lain knows the precepts of the program, and has plenty of  experience with online gatherings over the past 12 months.   With the support of the Rotary Clubs in District 5160, we ~60 high school students from the schools throughout the Northern California area for our virtual ‘Camp Royal’.

Virtual Camp Royal will be 14 to 17 June, from 9am to 12:30pm, with some earlier optional activities.  Campers will be getting a ‘camp box’ in the week before camp, with some surprise goodies.

NOTE: There are many USA Camp Royals. This is Rotary District 5160 in North Central California. To find a participating club in our area, contact the Registrar, Gary Wegener at  For general questions, use
